Why cotton?
Cotton is a sustainable fibre that is naturally breathable, hypoallergenic, and durable. Whilst conventional swimsuit fabrics such as polyester and nylon have their place as performance fabrics, plastic based fabrics take over 200 years to decompose, leech microplastics, and often trap heat and create sweat, which can cause irritation and disrupt vaginal health.Β Β
I have one old cotton swimsuit that I absolutely love. When its dry, the feeling of cotton on your skin is breathable and natural. Once you get out of the water, there is something undeniably sensual⦠think goosebumps, wet t-shirt contests or kissing in the rain.
So far, Palmette has used deadstock (Slow Days, Fast Company) and OEKO-TEX Cert 100 (Fruit Basket) 100% cotton for our collections.

The questions on everyone's lips
So...can I wear it in the water?
Of course! Palmette is your companion for long days on the beach, dips in the pool, saunas and spas, and picnics suntanning in the park.
Your Palmette bikini may take a little longer to dry than your usual synthetic fabric bikinis, but once dry it is breathable and comfortable, making it perfect for all day wear.
For high impact activities such as surfing or swimming laps, best to stick to your stretch performance fabrics.
How do I care for my Palmette bikini?
All Palmette bikinis are made of 100% cotton. Handwash with gentle detergent and line dry inside-out to avoid fading.
Why should I wear Palmette in the sauna?
Conventional swimwear and athletic fabrics such as polyester and nylon are made of plastic. They cause irritation and trap heat, creating a sweaty and irritating environment for your skin.
The heat of the sauna also causes microplastics to release and be absorbed into your skin.
Opt for your 100% cotton Palmette bikini in the sauna for a breatheable and non-irritating option.
Where should I wear Palmette?
Clambering over rocks in the South of France, eating soft serve from an ice cream truck in Mollymook, swimming by the creek with a picnic, sunbaking in the park. The world is your oyster.
